Thorne Research Chromium Picolinate Capsules
What chromium picolinate is
Chromium is a trace mineral involved in how your body handles carbohydrate. Picolinate is simply the form it's bound to, chosen because it absorbs better than chromium chloride, which is the cheap alternative you'll see on some labels.
Sixty capsules. Thorne make it without the fillers and flow agents that turn up in most mineral supplements, which is a large part of why their products cost what they do.
Do you need it?
Most people get some chromium from food. Whole grains, broccoli, meat and nuts all contain it, though amounts vary depending on the soil the food was grown in. Deficiency isn't common in people eating a varied diet.
That's a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. If you eat reasonably well and have no particular reason to think you're short, chromium probably isn't the supplement that will make a difference for you.
Taking it
With food. Space it apart from calcium or zinc supplements if you take those, since minerals compete for absorption when taken together.
Talk to your doctor before starting if you take medication that affects blood sugar, since chromium is relevant to that and the interaction is worth discussing rather than guessing at. Same if you're pregnant or nursing.
