Why copper, and why chelated

Copper is a trace mineral your body uses in connective tissue and in how it handles iron. Chelated means it's bound to an amino acid, which absorbs better than the cheaper copper oxide you'll find on some labels.

One hundred tablets. Copper needs are small, and this is a maintenance amount rather than a therapeutic dose.

The zinc connection

This is the part most copper pages skip. Zinc and copper compete for absorption, and taking zinc at higher amounts over months can drive copper down. That's the most common reason someone ends up needing copper in the first place, and if you take a zinc supplement it's worth knowing about.

It works the other way too. Don't take copper and zinc at the same time of day if you take both. Space them apart.

More is not better here

Copper has a genuinely narrow window. Your body needs a small amount and too much causes problems, which is not true of every mineral on the shelf. Stick to the label, and don't stack this on top of a multivitamin that already contains copper without checking the combined total.

Check with your doctor if you're pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a health condition.
